Bahrain November 30, 2010: In an auspicious program undertaken by the Bunts Bahrain Association Executive Committee and its members, His Holiness Shri Shri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Odiyoor was invited to Bahrain to deliver a moral discourse for the benefit of general members, their families and well-wishers at the Isa Bin Salman Cultural Hall of the Alumni Club in Adliya on the evening of Friday the 26th November, 2010.

The program took-off at 6.00 p.m. with a devotional song by Mr. Ravindra Prabhu. Swamiji was welcomed to the Hall with the accompaniment of the traditional Poorna Kumba welcome, complete with the beating of drums, dancing and ‘kalasa’. Mr. Doomanna Rai welcomed the Swamiji, all the devotees and guests who had assembled in the Hall with much eagerness. A prayer song by Ravindra Prabhu and an Invocation Dance under the direction of Ms. Nayana Rai and choreographed by Ms. Aasthika Shetty gave the right prayerful and divine touch to begin the program. Mr. Amarnath Rai, President of Bunts Bahrain along with the other Executive Committee members escorted the Swamiji onto the stage and to his specially erected podium seat.

The President of Bunts Bahrain then addressed the gathering welcoming the Swamiji on his maiden visit to Bahrain and thanking him for accepting the invitation. It was the turn of Mr. Sunil Shetty to read to the audience the Swamiji’s profile in introduction. The Swamiji was felicitated with a memento in appreciation of his visit to Bahrain and on being with the community.

The Swamiji honored 5 prominent community members, viz., Mr. Shantaram Shetty, Mr. Sudhakar Shetty, Mr. Prakash Shetty, Mr. Ajay Shetty and Mr. Rajeev Menon with memento presentations to each and Prasadam. Mementoes were also given to five other prominent dedicated members, Mr.Ravindra Prabhu, Mr. Padmananah, Ms. Nayana Rai, Ms. Vijaya Satyanarayana. The Swamiji honored them all by donning them each with a special Gurudevadatta Samsthanam silk shawl and distributed the ‘Prasadam’ imparting divine blessings on them.

The Swamiji then delivered the "Pravachana" for nearly 30 minutes, a moral discourse enchanting the entire audience with choice messages as he gave typical examples in daily life on spirituality, love, service and generosity. Science he said, may give us proof for every single thing but it is our exemplary experience in life and benevolence as role model human beings that will leave behind an indelible mark of existence. The audience responded with peals of laughter at intervals as he laced his talk giving humorous examples and acknowledged his appreciation with rich applause. "Richness without generosity is like a tree without shade", said the Swamiji resolutely.

He expressed delight in the warm welcome given to him by the community and was impressed by the various activities undertaken by the dedicated members praising the efforts made by all and encouraged all to continue with the good work. The Swamiji immensely thanked the Bunts Bahrain Association for their benevolent gestures and works. He concluded by thanking the Bunts Bahrain organizers for inviting him over to Bahrain and concluded by imparting divine blessings to all and wishing all the programs of the Association every success.

The program was capably compered by the Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Sudhir Shetty, in his inimitable style.

All the devotees and well-wishers were given the opportunity to meet the Swamiji with reverence on stage and take his blessings as he personally distributed the "Prasadam" to each one of them.

Odiyoor Swamiji Inaugurates Welcome Arch at Pudu-Thumbe

A welcome arch named ‘Maharaja’, which was erected at a cost of Rs 15 lac at Kadegoli, intersection of Pudu–Thumbe villages on National Highway 48, was inaugurated on Friday March 19.

Sri Gurudevanand Swami of Odiyoor Mutt inaugurated the welcome arch. In his message to the gathering, Swami Gurudevanand said that the sustenance of culture and traditions also leads to national prosperity. “A small portion of income contributed towards good deeds enables an individual to pay back the debt of society”, he said.

Odiyoor Seer to Chathurdham Darshan

H. H. Sri Swamiji is on pilgrimage with his devotees to Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangothri and Yamunothri (Chathurdham Darshan) from June 15, 2009 to July 1, 2009. On these days, he is not available for public meet at Sri Samsthanam.

Badrinath:
Badrinath is situated in the lap of Nar-Narayan Parvat, with the towering Neelkanth peak (6,597mts.) in the background. Also known as the Vishal Badri, the largest among the five Badris, it is revered by all as the apt tribute to Lord Vishnu.

It is believed that to revive the lost prestige of Hinduism and to unite the country in one bond, Adi Guru Sri Shankaracharya built four pilgrimage centres in four corners of India. Among them were Badrikashram (Badrinath) in the north, Rameshwaram in the south, Dwarkapuri in the west and Jagannath Puri in the east. Badrinath situated at an elevation of 3,133 mts. is considered to be amongst the most pious.

The revered spot was once carpeted with wild berries which gave it the name 'Badri Van' meaning 'forest of berries.' Built by Adi Shankaracharaya, the philosopher-saint of the 8th century, the temple has been renovated several times due to damage by avalanches and restored in the 19th century by the royal houses of Scindia & Holkar. The main entrance gate is colourful & imposing popularly known as Singhdwar.

Kedarnath:
Kedarnath is the seat of Lord Shiva. It is one of the twelve "Jyotirlingas" of Lord Shiva. Lying at an altitude of 3584 m at the head of river Mandakini, the shrine of Kedarnath is amongst the holiest pilgrimage for the Hindus. It is no wonder that Adi Guru Shankaracharya - a great scholar & saint, chose to enshrine Lord Shiva in this land, where the unholy becomes oly and the holy becomes holier. Kedar meaning powerful is another name of Lord Shiva the protector and the destroyer.

Situated in the backdrop of the majestic Sri Kedarnath range, Kedarnath is a 14 km trek from Gaurikund. At Kedarnath there are several Kunds (pools, tanks) that are known for their religious significans - shivkund, Retkund, hanskund, Udakkund, Rudhirkund are the most important. A little away from Kedarnath is a temple dedicated to Bhaironathji who is ceremoniously worshipped at the opening & closing of Kedarnath. The belief is that Bhairavnathji protects this land from evil during the time when temple of Kedarnath is closed. There are more than 200 shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva in Chamoli district itself, the most important one is Sri Kedarnath.

During the winters, the shrine is submerged in snow & hence is closed. Fortunate are those who have good weather, but twice blessed are those who are at Kedarnath on a moonlit night- the snow peak gleams like hundred silver pinnacles atop the glittering mountains.

The holiest of Shiva's shrines is linked to Gold among base metals so that every pilgrims finds peace here, and it is said that devotees who die here become one with Shiva himself. Beyond the temple is the highway to heaven, called Mahapanth.

Gangothri:
The revered shrine of Gangotri, situated at an altitude of 3,200 mts. about sea-level amidst sylvan surroundings, constitutes one of the most important pilgrimages for the devout Hindu. The temple was constructed in the early 18th century by a Gorkha Commander Amar Sigh Thapa. The existing temple is said to be the one reconstructed by the Jaipur dynasty. Every year thousands of pilgrims through the sacred shrine between May & October.

The Pujaris & brahmins are from the village of Mukhwa. The water from Gangotri is carried to offer to Lord Shiva. It is believed that this water has amrit (nectar) in it and will soothe the throat of Shiva who gulp the poison.

Yamunothri:
The sacred shrine of Yamunotri, source of the river Yamuna, is the westernmost shrine in the Garhwal Himalayas, perched atop a flank of Bandar Poonch Parvat. The chief attraction at Yamunotri is the temple devoted to goddess Yamuna and the holy thermal springs at Jankichatti (7 km. Away).

The actual source a frozen lake of ice & glacier (Champasar glacier) located on the Kalind mountain at the height of 4421 m above sea level, about 1 km further up, is not frequented generally as it is not accessible and hence the shrine has been located on the foot of the hill. The approach is extremely difficult and pilgrims therefore offer pooja at the temple itself.

The temple of Yamuna is on the left bank of Yamuna constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal. The deity is made of black marble. The Yamuna like Ganga has been elavated to the status of divine mother for the Hindus and has been held responsible for nurturing and developing the Indian civilization.

Close to the temple are hot water springs gushing out from the mountain cavities. Suryakund is the most important Kund. Near the Suryakund there is a shila called Divya Shila, which is worshipped before puja is offered to the deity. Devotees prepare rice and potatoes to offer at the shrine by dipping them in these hot water springs, tied in muslin cloth. Rice so cooked is taken back home as prasadam.The pujaris of Yamunotri come from the village of Kharsali near Jankichatti. They are the administrators of the sacred place and perform religious rites well versed in Shastras.

Bantwal, Apr 10: "Arms have no capability of solving any of the problems. Scriptures have solutions to every one of the problems," advocated Odiyoor Sri Gurudeva Dutta Samsthan Swamiji Sri Gurudevananda. He was delivering the benedictory address at the religious meeting organized as part of the Lord Hanuman birth anniversary at the Samsthan on Thursday April 9.

"A social system can be run only as long as the cost of plans and projects matches with the funds in the exchequer. We should have a sense of balance in everything we do. We should honour and respect righteousness. Lord Hauman reflects our confidence. If we follow the ideals for which the Lord lived, we automatically get confidence, contentment and a sense of fulfillment," he explained while delivering divine message on this auspicious occasion.

In his address, head of the department of Sanskrit, Dharmastala Manjunatheshwara College Dr E Mahabaleshwar Bhat hailed the Swamiji for starting several socially relevant and spiritually enriching plans for the benefit of the people.

Renuka Rai rendered the prayer. Odiyoor Vikasa project officer Satyaganapati Pambattaje welcomed. Executive Janagganath Rai proposed vote of thanks. Coordinator Vasant Peraje presented the programme.

The uninterrupted relay chanting of Bhajans, which started on the Rama Navami day at the temple, concluded on Thursday. The Bhajans teams which participated, were honoured. Various religious programmes like Deeparadhane, Ganapati Havana, Panchamukhi Anjaneya Mahayaga, worship of the serpent god and various cultural and folk programmes were organized.

Bantwal, Jan 20: Reforms in society can be achieved by individuals who are cultured and lead a blissful life, said Sri Gurudevanand Swamiji of Odiyoor Math.

Swami Gurudevanand was speaking at a programme organized in his honour on Sunday January 18 by Bantwal–Panemangalur regional committee of Odiyoor Mandalotsav. The programme also consisted of distribution of financial assistance, cultural extravaganza of Bimooda village, and a valedictory ceremony.
